Finding Balance
Safety first: Always wear a helmet and pads. It's crucial to prioritize safety before hitting the road. Wearing a properly fitted helmet and protective pads can prevent serious injuries.
Find a smooth, flat surface to practice on. Look for areas with minimal obstacles and traffic, such as empty parking lots or quiet streets. A smooth surface will make it easier to focus on mastering your balance.
Position your front foot near the front trucks and push off gently with your back foot. Start by placing your front foot near the front trucks (the metal axles holding the wheels) and pushing off gently with your back foot. This will set you in motion while maintaining stability.
Keep your weight centred and knees slightly bent to maintain balance. Centring your weight over the board and keeping your knees slightly bent will help you stay balanced and stable as you ride.
Practice shifting weight from heel to toe to find your balance point. Experiment with shifting your weight from your heels to your toes and vice versa. This will help you find your balance point and get comfortable making adjustments while riding.
Gradually increase speed and practice controlling it by shifting weight and using the back foot to brake. Once you're comfortable with basic balance, gradually increase your speed. Practice controlling your speed by shifting your weight and using your back foot to brake gently.
Practice stopping by easing off the front foot and gently applying pressure with the back foot. To come to a stop, ease off the pressure from your front foot while gently applying pressure with your back foot. This will slow you down smoothly and safely.Start slow and focus on developing your balance before moving on. Take your time and don't rush the learning process. Focus on mastering your balance before advancing to more complex maneuvers.
